Mexican authorities dealt a new blow to drug trafficking after seizing over 1.8 tons of cocaine in the state of Sonora in a coordinated operation in the country's border zone. The seizure took place in the municipality of San Luis Río Colorado and is part of ongoing actions to curb drug smuggling into the United States. Key technology for detecting the shipment The discovery was made possible by the use of gamma-ray technology, employed by security personnel during the inspection of a tractor-traveling from San Blas, Nayarit, to Tijuana, Baja California. During the initial inspection, agents detected anomalies in the vehicle's structure, leading to a more detailed inspection. The individuals involved are from Sinaloa and have been turned over to the Attorney General's Office, along with the seized drugs and vehicle. The tractor-trailer, a white Kenworth model, was used to transport the illicit cargo, although it had no report of theft, which reinforces the hypothesis of an organized network behind drug trafficking. Ongoing border operations State authorities highlighted that this seizure is the result of coordinated operations between different levels of government, which remain active at key points along the northern border. These actions aim to weaken the structures of organized crime not only through arrests but also by directly impacting their finances by preventing the distribution of large drug shipments. It was then that they discovered a total of 1,877 packages of cocaine, hidden inside the unit, with a weight exceeding 1,800 kilograms. This type of technology has been key in recent operations, as it allows for the identification of irregularities without the need to completely disassemble vehicles, speeding up security actions at strategic points. As a result of the coordination between the National Guard and the Mexican Army, in the municipality of San Luis Río Colorado, a tractor-trailer transporting approximately two tons of cocaine was secured, under the framework of the Secure Border program. As a result of the operation, two men were detained at the scene.
